3 Peak Challenge3 Peak Challenge Itinerary

Thursday

Meet at the pick-up location between 8-8.30pm. We normally look to have a bite to eat at one of the local restaurants as a good way to meet and great. We will aim to leave between 9.30-10pm.

Friday

The drive to Ben Nevis is approximately 10 hours with 2 - 3 service stops. Once in Fort William we shall stop for people to freshen up with the possibility of a quick breakfast. The 24 hour challenge begins in one of Scotland’s most scenic areas; Glen Nevis Valley. From here we will climb Ben Nevis, the largest mountain in the UK, standing at 1,344m.

We aim to be walking on Ben Nevis by 8am. Ben Nevis provides spectacular views as we trek through the morning.

After descending from Ben Nevis we will drive through the night towards the beautiful Lake District. Once arriving in the Lakes we will begin to climb the second of the 3 Peaks - Scafell Pike; the highest mountain in England standing at 978m.

We hope to start climbing Scafell Pike late Friday night, this presents a new challenge as well, climbing in the dark (with use of head torches).

Saturday.

3 Peak ChallengeIf we are running to plan we will be coming down Scafell Pike in the early hours of Saturday morning.

This will set us up for starting Snowdon Saturday morning, the highest mountain in Wales, standing at 1,085m. Snowdon is a national treasure with its scenery and diversity of plants and wildlife. A truly stunning end to the 3 Peaks Challenge.

Once completing the challenge, this will give us a chance to relax in one of the local towns for a drink and a bite to eat.

Sunday

We will leave Wales, looking to be on the road for 8am and be back early afternoon.

3 Peak Challenge 20113 Peak Challenge Q&As

How fit do I need to be for the 3 Peaks?

Obviously physical fitness and walking experience both help but the whole ethos of Challenge Central is to take on a challenge, not to be the quickest.

The 3 Peak Challenge is as tough mentally as it is physically. You will suffer from sleep deprivation, fatigue and possibly be faced with some rather horrible whether. These all helps to make the 3 Peak Challenge such an amazing adventure!

3 Peak Challenge 2011The weekend isn't easy but it is fun, rewarding and challenging. If you are tough on the inside, your outside willcatch up.

How should I train for the 3 Peaks?

The best and most relevant training you can do would be to walk up and down mountains or hills. We appreciate that this is not always possible due to location but anything more vertical than flat will help prepare you for the real thing.

If you don't have access to any hills then you can create your own in the gym. Walk up hill on the treadmill, climb on the climber or stepper and get up and down the stairs. Any movement that involves stepping up is good.

3 Peak ChallengeFailing the first two training options the next best thing would be to improve the strength of muscles required in the challenge.

Performing exercises such as squats, lunges and step ups will help increase the strength of your leg muscles. You can progress by holding weights to increase intensity. Speak to your gym instructor if you are unsure.

Can I book a corporate or group booking?

Yes you can. We can tailor an event to your needs, picking you up from your work place, or a convenient location. We will only allow people from your group to take part in the event, we will not open places up for other individuals. Contact us for more information.

What should I do for food?

We do not supply food on the trip. We do provide hot water however which can be used to heat foods such as soup, Quick Sports Meals and porridge.

We recommend you bring food that is energy dense, light to carry and easy to eat on the mountains.

We will be making regular stops at service stations whilst on driving between each mountain.

Will I be left behind if I am slow?

Of course not! In the past we have tried to keep participants together in large or small groups but have found that participants enjoy the challenge more if they can go at theirown pace whether that id faster of slower than the average.

No one is allowed to walk on their own but we do allow you to trek in groups of 2 or more.

We will always have a guide at the front and the back of the group to guide the way. Challengers will not be permitted to overtaken the front guide or follow behind the back guide.

Commonly this results in 3 smaller groups, a front group, back group and one in the middle. No one will be forced to walk faster or slower than they are able to.

How much water should I bring?

We will provide enough water for the entire weekend but feel free to bring your own sources of hydration.

Keeping yourself hydrated is very important, before, during and after each mountain.
