Information Events - Are they beneficial?
"Can I take part on my own", "How fit do I need to be" and "What if I am too slow" are just a few of the questions we get asked frequently.
Often the biggest fear factor will be the unknown! If you are new to challenges, how do you know what to expect or whether you could achieve something amazing? If you don't know anyone who has taken part in the same or similar event, how can you get the answers you need?
Challenge Central started running Information Events in 2014 after a number of participants shared their feelings with us and explained how they were very nervous at the beginning about taking on such a challenge. We decided to arrange a number of evenings during the year where people could come along for free and ask their questions direct to the CC team.
All our Information Events are held in an informal and social environment (no formal presentations) allowing everyone to feel relaxed. People will have the opportunity to speak with members of the trekking and cycling team as well as previous participants who can share their experience of CC events.
Here below are comments from some people who have attended our Information Events:
"Attending a Challenge Central Information Evening in London was such a great decision. I went along because I was apprehensive about cycling to Paris. I wasn't sure if I would be fit enough to take part and I had a number of questions about the itinerary. As soon as I arrived I was greeted by a member of the CC team and straight away I felt at ease. I was able to ask my questions in a relaxed environment and felt reassured once I received the answers. I had the opportunity to meet a number of the team who was going to be running my challenge weekend and I also got to speak with some people who had taken part in the challenge on previous occasions thus sharing their experiences with me. Following the evening, I took the plunge and signed up to the challenge. I have since completed the cycle ride and I can honestly say if I hadn't gone to the Information Evening, I don't think I would have booked my place. If you are thinking about whether to go to one of the Information events, I would say DEFINITELY GO! They are very informative and free so why wouldn't you!"
"I am so pleased I attended the Information Event. Although I live near Devon, I had no hesitation to travel to Hertfordshire. Although I could have phoned or emailed to ask my questions, I wanted to meet the CC leaders beforehand and thought it would be nice to meet some other like-minded people. I wasn't expecting to meet someone on the same mountain challenge as me who has since become a friend for life."
"I reserved my place at the Information Event following my sign up to Amsterdam and dragged my friend along to the evening for moral support. I needn't have bothered as I was made to feel welcome as soon as I walked through the door. I got to meet Cycle Leaders Lorraine and David as well as the Events Manager Selina who I had been speaking to on email. The opportunity to meet the team before the challenge commenced was such a good idea. I decided to take on the challenge on my own and although I knew I would be fine, I still secretly was nervous about joining the challenge as an individual. Meeting the staff before the challenge weekend made me feel no longer alone and as soon as I rocked up at the starting point in London, I didn't feel worried as I already knew three people! I would recommend going to an Information Event if you get the chance especially if you are nervous about taking part on your own. The team are wonderful and made the experience from start to finish memorable. I look forward to taking on another challenge with them in the future!"
The Information Events are a great way to put any concerns or nerves you may have to rest. There is certainly no hard selling and if you are worries you are going to be forced to sign up to an event before you leave, you couldn't be more wrong! We just would like to allow people to meet us and ask as many questions as they like... no question is a silly question in our opinion! If you are interested in attending an Information Event and would like to be added to the guest list, you can reserve your place here
The Information Events are free, so what have you got to lose? Attending could be the start of something amazing and memorable!
