Join us for a one-day adventure as we trek to the top of the highest mountain in Wales, the mighty Mount Snowdon at 1085m tall.
Snowdon is situated in the glorious mountain range of Snowdonia, where on a clear day you will be treated to some absolutely spectacular views.
With some breath-taking scenery on display throughout the journey, you’ll be left with a great sense of achievement as you summit the highest mount in Wales.
We offer three Snowdon walks: Snowdon Day Trek / Night Trek / Snowdon Horseshoe.
The Snowdon trek is also perfect practice if you are taking part in another one of our mountain challenges.
Please note that unlike some of our other challenges, accommodation and transport to Snowdonia are not included.
We take customer service very seriously but don’t take our word for it, see our feedback page with testimonials from previous challengers who have enjoyed our trekking challenges.
We also have a Snowdon Trek Photo Gallery with action snaps from the trekking challenge.
The meeting point for the challenge is at the Snowdon Mountain Railway Entrance, Llanberis LL55 4TT at 10:00. From there you will catch a public bus to Pen-y-Pass starting point where a full event brief will be given. Please note you will need change for the car park and for the public bus.
The trek begins at 11:00am and you will take the Pyg track to the summit.
Subject to the weather being kind to us we will take a stop at the café (30 minutes – 1 hour) before making our way back down the Llanberis route.
Conquering the 1085m tall mountain, will take approximately 5 hours of trekking up and down the rocky terrain.
Snowdon Day Trek Challenge Dates

See Mount Snowdon at night and watch the sunrise over Snowdonia as you descend. Trekking at night is a different experience to the day however with your torches lighting the way and the trek fully led by our experienced mountain team, you will be able to witness the mountain's beauty at night.
The meeting point for the challenge is at the Snowdon Mountain Railway Entrance, Llanberis LL55 4TT at 22:30. There are options to park locally however please note some public car parks are only open during the day so please arrive in sufficient time to be able to park and get to the meeting point.
The trek begins at 23:00 following a brief and you will take the Llanberis track to the summit.
After we have reached the summit in the early hours of Day 2, we will head back down the same route. As the night's sky becomes lighter, you will see Snowdonia wake up in all it's glory as we continue to make the descent to the finish line.
Conquering the 1085m tall mountain, will take approximately 6-7 hours (trekking up and down).
Snowdon Night Trek Challenge Dates
23rd - 24th June 2018
22nd- 23rd June 2019
The Snowdon Horseshoe is an amazing trek which sees you trek Snowdon in a varied, circular route. On a clear day, you would get arguably the best views in Britain however this challenge is not recommended for anyone with fears of heights as the route is exposed along some of the sections.
Conquering the challenge, will take approximately 5-7 hours (trekking up and down) with breaks and a stop at the Summit. Please note - the weather and conditions will dictate which route we take and may need to alter on the day for health and safety reasons.
A reasonable level of fitness is ideal, however mainly a head for heights. There's also some scrambling involved so a light small, day sack would be best whilst wearing standard mountain clothing in case of any weather outcome. Appropriate trekking footwear is required, e.g. hiking boots or approach trainers; anyone with casual footwear or trainers will not be allowed to complete the event and this is due to the nature of Crib Goch and other sections of the challenge.
The meeting point for the challenge is outside the YHA entrance at Pen-y-Pass, Caernarfon LL55 4NY at 10:30. Please note mobile signal here is limited and parking at times can be difficult. You can park in Llanberis or Nant Peris and use the public bus which takes you straight to Pen-y-Pass (approximate 20-minute travel time) or there are parking bays near Pen-y-Pass public car park (an approximate 15 minute walk). Please allow yourself adequate time to find parking / get to the meeting point and enough change for parking / bus fares.
The trek begins promptly after a challenge brief at 11:00am from Pen-y-Pass and takes in a ridge scramble via Crib Goch, towards the summit of Snowdon. Please note if the winds are too strong, the scramble via Crib Goch may be avoided.
After a stop at the Summit (weather dependent), we will descend on the other side of the mountain towards the twin peaks Y Lliwedd, before circling back towards the Miners Path. From here, the final push to finish point is made.

WHAT OUR CHALLENGERS SAY
Challenge Central has been successfully helping people overcome some of the toughest, most exciting challenges for many years. Here’s what they have to say about their London to Amsterdam experience with us:
"I just wanted to say a HUGE thank you to you and the team we had with us at Snowdon. All 23 people have been raving about how amazing the team were. They were understanding, compassionate, caring, patient and professional. They really were the reason we all made it up and down there – the weather was horrendous! Personally, I would like to pass on my sincere thanks to Duncan. I had emergency spinal surgery last January, and never thought I’d be able to do anything like this ever again. Going up the Pyg path, at times I really struggled both mentally and physically. Duncan was an absolute rock (no pun intended) Without his support, encouragement, understanding and compassion, I never would have made it up there. I have my walking mojo back and I have Duncan to thank for that. Selina – thank you so much for all of your help and guidance in the lead up to the challenge. Nothing was too much trouble for you and I really appreciate that. We’re already planning next year’s challenge and I will definitely be booking with Challenge Central again. You’re amazing."
Tracy, October 2017
"In October we completed the Snowdon Trek. I just wanted to email to compliment the two younger guides, Nathan and Louie. The group split into two with the faster ones heading off with Phil and Duncan. We were not the fastest by any stretch of the imagination and one of our group really did find it a struggle but she did it. Nathan and Louie were really encouraging and thoughtful and really made sure we were safe at all times. We must have held them up so much being so slow but they never complained. They are both a credit to your company."

All Snowdon Challenges - Physical fitness and walking experience are both very important however the ethos of Challenge Central is to take on a challenge, not to be the quickest. The challenges involve walking for approximately 5-7 hours in one single day so should not be considered very easy however it is possible to achieve with correct preparation. We encourage in the build up to the challenge, participants undertake physical activity 3-4 times per week for at least 3 months.
Snowdon Horseshoe - A reasonable level of fitness is ideal, however you need to be able to cope with heights as you are very exposed on the mountain during sections of the challenge. There's also some scrambling involved at times.
All Snowdon Challenges - The best and most relevant training you can do would be to walk up and down mountains or hills. We appreciate that this is not always possible due to location however anything with a gradient will help prepare you for the real thing. If you do not have access to any hills then you can create your own in the gym. Walk up hills on the treadmill, take steps on the climber or go up and down stairs. Any movement that involves stepping up is beneficial.
Failing the first two training options, the next best thing would be to improve the strength of muscles required in the challenge. Performing exercises such as squats, lunges and step ups will help increase the strength of your leg muscles. You can progress by holding weights to increase intensity. We recommend you speak to your gym instructor if you are unsure.
All Snowdon Challenges - Of course not, no one will be left behind.
All Snowdon Challenges - We do not supply food on the trip however we recommend you bring food that is energy dense, light to carry and easy to eat on the mountain. Subject to the weather being kind to us, you will also be able to purchase food when we take a stop at the café at the summit before making our way back down.
All Snowdon Challenges - Keeping yourself hydrated is very important, before, during and after the mountain. The amount of water required varies for each individual and very weather dependent. As a rule of thumb however, we recommend a minimum of 1 litre for the event.
Snowdon Day Trek - The meeting point for the challenge is at the Snowdon Mountain Railway Entrance, Llanberis LL55 4TT at 10:00. From there you will catch a public bus to Pen-y-Pass starting point where a full event brief will be given. We meet in Llanberis before heading over to Pen-y-Pass because it has better mobile communication signal and there is more car parking spaces available. If you wish to meet us direct at Pen-y-Pass, please contact us.
The car park is Pay & Display so you will need cash to pay for your parking (usually around £10) and the bus is approximately £1.50-£2.00pp. The bus journey is approximately 20 minutes and often will be a double decker bus.
Snowdon Night Trek - The meeting point for the challenge is at the Snowdon Mountain Railway Entrance, Llanberis LL55 4TT at 22:30. There are options to park locally however please note some public car parks are only open during the day so please arrive in sufficient time to be able to park and get to the meeting point.
